Winners of essay competition announced

The winners of the essay competition on the theme of ‘Women-friendly cities’ were announced recently. The competition had asked high school and equivalent degree students to write essays within the framework of the United Nations Joint Programme to Protect and Promote the Human Rights of Women and Girls (UNJP).

The contest was held in six cities within the United Nations Joint Programme (UNJP), İzmir, Kars, Nevşehir, Şanlıurfa, Trabzon and Van. The winning essays were selected by six separate juries in each city. Three students were selected from each city, with the winner receiving a desktop computer, and the runners-up winning a digital camera and an MP3 player, respectively.

The winning students were invited to Ankara by the UNJP, where they attended a certificate ceremony and a reception in the United Nations center. The UNJP and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) staff, the Ministry of Interior Joint Programme team, and the UNJP Local Facilitators working in the six cities were present in the ceremony.
The certificates were presented to the winning students by the UNJP Programme Manager Nevin Şenol, the Ministry of Interior UNJP National Director Mustafa Çöğgün, and Auditor of the Ministry of Interior Recep Demir.
