Welcome to the United Nations Joint Programme e-Newsletter

Our quarterly newsletter provides our programme partners and the general public with detailed information on the progress of the Joint Programme.

The Joint programme is a unique effort to provide better opportunities for women and girls in Turkey by building service capacity for local governments and enhancing collaboration between NGOs and government authorities.

Women’s NGOs

UNJP Local Facilitator Ayşe Sargın talked to representatives from women’s NGOs in Van:

The United Nations Joint Programme to Protect and Promote the Human Rights of Women and Girls (UNJP) acted as a bridge in connecting public institutions and women’s NGOs. It helped us to communicate with one another. This is a very important contribution to women’s NGOs. It is, of course, impossible to eliminate the discrimination that is rooted and reproduced systematically solely with this programme. But we believe that it has been a great means for us in creating a joint platform in finding solutions. (Van Women’s Association)

We, the members of the Support for Women Entrepreneurs Association and project staff, tried our best in contributing to the United Nations Joint Programme to Protect and Promote the Human Rights of Women and Girls (UNJP). We had valuable lessons from the highly productive meetings, and in turn increased our communication and interaction with our women. We found answers to what more we could do for our women. We expanded our horizon. (Support for Women Entrepreneurs Association)  .

The real mission of the NGOs, who serve as bridges between the people and the government, is creating alternative solutions and activating mechanisms for these solutions. Women’s NGOs are the most effective institutions in identifying women’s problems and producing alternative solutions. This project opened the way for establishing communication and developing cooperation between women’s NGOs and local governments. We hope that this communication results in productive solutions. (Kadınlar Elele Association)

First, we identified the problems with the Joint Programme. Later, we prepared joint projects. It was very encouraging that our opinions were reflected in the Programme. Through the Programme, we realized that we could engage in joint work with public institutions. It was also very important that the women’s NGOs agreed on the common problems. The prejudices among women’s NGOs regarding one another was overcome with this programme as well. (YAKA-KOOP Women’s Cooperative)
