Our quarterly newsletter provides our programme partners and the general public with detailed information on the progress of the Joint Programme.

The Joint programme is a unique effort to provide better opportunities for women and girls in Turkey by building service capacity for local governments and enhancing collaboration between NGOs and government authorities.

An exemplary initiative from İzmir

İzmir Governor’s Office decides to establish a United Nations Joint Programme (UNJP) Province Coordination Council.

İzmir Governor’s Office set an example in deciding to establish a United Nations Joint Programme (UNJP) Province Coordination Council, and allocate a member of the staff, Züleyha Giritli, to inform and direct the applications to the related social services unit. United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Assistant Representative for Turkey, Dr. Tunga Tüzer and UN Joint Programme Manager Nevin Şenol sent letters to İzmir Governor M. Cahit Kıraç and Deputy Governor Haluk Tunçsu, expressing their appreciation for their support and contribution to the Programme, and for this pioneering initiative. The first meeting of the Province Coordination Council (for Women), took place on August 2, 2007 with Deputy Mayor Haluk Tunçsu, responsible for the Joint Programme, as the chair.
