Welcome to the United Nations Joint Programme e-Newsletter

Our quarterly newsletter provides our programme partners and the general public with detailed information on the progress of the Joint Programme.

The Joint programme is a unique effort to provide better opportunities for women and girls in Turkey by building service capacity for local governments and enhancing collaboration between NGOs and government authorities.

"I'm impressed with the Joint Programme"

Dr. Peer Sieben, the newly-appointed Representative to Turkey for United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), one of the funding UN agents of the Joint Programme, commented that the Programme 'is founded on a globally fresh concept like the "Women Friendly City," and its successful operation will contribute in raising awareness on the needs and rights of Turkish women and girls, and help their participation in decision-making mechanisms.'

Sieben said that 'I was very much impressed that the United Nations Joint Programme was being supported by all the UN agents and eight donor countries, and that the Programme involves crosssectoral work among the Ministry of Interior, governor's offices and municipalities, as well as the private sector'. UNJP PARTNERS

United Nations Joint Programme to Protect and Promote the Human Rights of Women and Girls in Turkey is supported by all UN agencies operating in Turkey, in addition to several partners and bilateral donor countries.
A major contribution is provided by Hacı Ömer Sabancı Foundation. Originally Canada, Denmark, Finland, Germany Norway, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom supported the UNJP. Recently France has provided financial support for the programme. Even a small contribution can make a big difference as the total of the contributions is always larger than the individual donations.
